Welcome!

Welcome to the Euro*MBA blog space! We will be using this blog to carry out some discussions related to the use of social media in higher education. Social media allow people to share their experiences using publishing tools such as blogs, video logs, photo sharing, podcasting, wikis etc. How may these media evolve and change the way we learn? Do you see any practical application for our course?
Happy blogging!

  1. Hi Clemens,
I am involved in training a little, and since my teachers at school were always so boring, I try to make my presentations really jazzy, and to spend ages on the materials with animations, photos, films etc.

Now - with software making it easier to jazz this up and even to make films, animated presentations with voice over and music etc. it has got to the point where it is easier just to play the presentation and keep quiet.

This brings me to the uncomfortable realisation that I don't really need to be there at all.

Since all my work is international, I tend to feel that I should save the flights etc, and just send the file in the form of a film. However, the EU as my main client will not pay me unless I have a signed timesheet from the host country. Now I have the ridiculous situation of doing all the travelling just to get the time sheet signed.

I guess the World will change, where there will be less and less face to face presentations - I watched the entire NYU Stern MBA Finance course on video - Of course, I can't get the qualification without signing up, paying and meeting the entry criteria, but I can get the course value
    without bothering to attend.

I can also buy all the CFA training videos (pirate versions) in the shops in Damascus for a few dollars when the real price is thousands.

You are clearly something of a pioneer in the area of e-learning Clemens. I think you are right to be, because the trend for traditional methods is extinction. The idea of sitting in a class to watch a lecture when you can sit in the comfort of your own home watching on big screen is not so pleasant.

  2. Hi Mike,

So, where do we go from here? Accepting the old-fashioned way or finding a blended approach?
I am still thinking how to bring social media into the classroom or in other words, what can we do with twitter, facebook, blogger etc what we cannot do on Discussion Board or our LMS?
    Any suggestion?

    all the best
    Clemens
